Woo hoo... I got my preorder in :)
I just hope I can make enough money to actually purchase it when it comes out in December. I do feel that for the size of car, compared to others of the same size on the market, it is a little overpriced. However, everything that is new is expensive as they have not ramped up production to match that of traditional gas guzzlers.
So, yea, I am happy to spend a little extra, especially given that I am a green junkie, and everyone who knows me knows that if I could I would be running on 100% renewable methods.
My present car is a '99 sl2 Saturn with 184,000 miles on it and in need of being replaced. I, like most people in this country, drive under 100 miles a day, so this car is perfect for me except when I need to go out of town, but that is why you can rent a car just for those once-in-a-while long trips.
Now, when the power cell has been developed sufficiently, we won't have to worry about the short range of the electric vehicle. Granted, we won't be allowed to put some kind of mini reactor in our cars, but think of how far we would be able to drive if we could. Sadly, we can't do this because there are idiots out there who would want to blow it up.
Well, the other car I have had my eye on for some time is the Aptera (www.aptera.com). At first, I thought it looked weird, but it grew on me and now I rather like it. I would have reserved it if I lived in California, but they are not going to have it here in Texas for some time, it seems.
Ah well, the options are just going to get better as time goes on. As for me, I can't wait to have an electric vehicle and never have to do an oil change again...
Stop that stupid drilling already, and let's go electric! :)

UPDATE:
Just wanted to say that I am very sad to report that I was unable to get my Leaf
.
My Saturn just didn't survive long enough for me to get the car I have always wanted, so I have had to cancel my reservation and look for other transport.
Maybe, when the Leaf 2 comes out, I'll be fortunate enough to own one. Wish me luck.
